How to Clean Blinds

You want your blinds to look as good as the rest of your carefully decorated home. Maintaining your blinds requires just a little bit of research to make sure that you’re taking steps to preserve them and not inadvertently damage them with harsh products. So, if you’re wondering how to keep your window blinds in tip-top shape, you’re in the right place. At Custom Window Coverings, we’ve been helping Temecula homeowners not only find the right blinds for their home, but also help them maintain their beauty for years to come.

If you’re curious about how to clean blinds, you’re in the right place.

Everyday Cleaning: Wipe Down

For daily cleaning, the best way to keep your Hunter Douglas blinds looking great is simply by dusting gently with a microfiber cloth, feather duster, or handheld vacuum. When you want a bit of a deeper clean, a more thorough wipe down is your next step. For most blinds, we recommend a small amount of mild dish soap in warm water (not hot!) and a damp microfiber cloth. Wipe each slat gently the same way you would when you dust. Dampen the cloth in the solution again as necessary but always make sure to thoroughly wring out the cloth before applying it to your slats.

Deep Cleaning: Taking Down Your Blinds

Depending on where your blinds live in your home, especially if they are mounted in your kitchen or bathroom, then you may need to take your blinds down for a deep cleaning. Remove heavily soiled blinds from their brackets and take them outside of your home or place them in a contained space like a bathtub. Hose them off or soak them in a tub of warm, soapy water (just like you would use in a daily clean) for 10-15 minutes. Then, gently scrub them or wipe them down with a sponge. Rinse thoroughly and air dry before rehanging.

Considerations for Specialty Materials
